Gamechanger: Millenials and their Furniture Buying Habits
As a young professional in my late 20s, I was looking forward to finally being able to acquire my own place. It’s a simple modern house in a village with excellent urban design concepts. I want the interior to reflect my millennial personality. However, I was having trouble outfitting my new home. It took me months to finally purchase furniture fit to my modern liking. Here’s a list of millennial things I considered before finally saying yes to my furniture pieces:
Eco-friendly. Millennials are environmentally aware. We are very particular not just with the final product but the process it went through. I tend to embrace products that are produced ethically such as being produced with less carbon emissions, observing sustainable practices, and has no harmful implications on the environment and wildlife. I am more interested in green living and embrace brands that advocate the same.
Tech-friendly. Millennials are tech dependent. Any furniture pieces that have tech features are growing to be popular. Have you seen the bedside table that also serves as a wireless charger for your phone? All you have to do is leave your phone in any part of the table surface and your phone automatically charges. Or even just the simple desk that offers a cable management feature so you don't have to worry about cord tangles when charging your phone, laptop, speakers, or what else you have altogether.
Fit for the gram. Millennials thrive in making experiences. Instead of the usual trip to the bar or club, I’d rather have the option to make a few cocktails or try out recipes at home for my girlfriends when we prefer to. A corridor bar or a modern bar cabinet may do the trick. These pieces must also be instagram-ready so you have to put careful consideration in its design. What use is curating these experiences with your friends when you can’t share them online, am I right?
Minimalism. Millennials love to cultivate their personal brands. The highlight of modern design is minimal ornamentation. Minimal furniture can be easily mixed with other styles so it’s better to invest in minimal pieces for your major furniture: sofas, beds...etc. and then mix-and-match with other styles for other furniture: bedside table, lamps...etc. if you wish to input your unique tastes. Just make sure they are streamlined.
Customization and Design Control. Millennials love to personalize everything. I prefer to always have “my touch” on things including the interior design for my home. That’s why it was more helpful to consult with businesses that offer customization, such as AB Frank Interior, a Davao Furniture Shop. They made it easier for me to have that perfect furniture fix and fit for my home.
